1 Sunset Parkway Renovations (Plonk School)

2016 Griffin Award by the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County.

The 1926 building originally served as the Asheville Women’s Club and the Plonk School of the Arts. Most recently it was used as a church. The 12,000 square foot building has been divided into two residences. The building was built for the ages: the roof is slate, walls are all solid brick, and the roof trusses are steel. The design intent was to create a home that preserves the grand detailing of the original building while accommodating functions commonly found in luxury residences. Contemporary modifications of the interior were done in a manner respectful of the existing Georgian detailing.
